Surrendering A Parrot

Welcome to the home page of Parrot Rescue in OKC. We are a no kill parrot rescue service. Parrots are very social birds when they have the time devoted to them that is required. Bird ownership is not for everyone. If you have a parrot that you can't or don't want to take care of, then please allow us the privilage of finding your bird a permanent caring home. We may keep your bird or we may adopt it out, but we guarantee a good home with a loving family. We accept special need and ill parrots as well. You can fill out our surrender form and a volunteer will contact you within 2 days or contact us 24 hours a day by phone if it is an emergency.

Adopting A Parrot

If you have the patience, ability, and resources to provide a good home for a foster parrot please let us know. We will inspect any home before placing a bird. No breeder adoptions allowed and no shipping of birds. Some parrots can live longer than 60 years so a long time committment is required. Parrots usually become attached to their owners and house jumping can be tramatic on a parrot. If you plan on getting a bird to leave in its cage and ignore all the time, parrot parenting is not for you. Parrot ownership requires several hours a week and must constantly be cleaned up after. Owning a parrot is like having a 2 year old toddler for many many years. If this is for you fill out the adoption prescreening form to start the application process.

http://www.mytoos.com/main.shtml read this site before you contact us to adopt a bird.

We will educate you on parrot care and be here to answer your questions. What we can't do for you is create the time that you will need to dedicate to parrot ownership. Plan on spending 2 hours a day minimum  with your parrot.

Donating

If you don't have the time or patience for bird ownership, but you can't help but love birds, you can donate to our cause. Check out our wish list and donation page to find out how you can help.

 Parrots We Rescue

Parrot types we can adopt; African Grey Parrot, Amazon Parrot, Barred Parakeet, Blue-and-yellow Macaw, Budgerigar (Budgies), Cockatiel, Hyacinth Macaw, Green-winged Macaw, Moluccan Cockatoo, Monk Parakeet (Quaker Parakeet), Parrolet, Rose-ringed parakeet, Scarlet Macaw, and Sun Conure. We would do everything possible to take in any other breed of parrot, but these parrot breeds tend to be the most demanding and therefor often the most neglected.

This is Cappy. He is a healthy and happy 1 year old grey breasted parakeet (aka monk or quaker parakeet) and my reason for starting this rescue. He was owned by a very nice family that had no idea they were neglecting him by closing him up in his "own" room. The first week Cappy wasn't much more than a wild bird. But not now! Cappy can say "hello", "polly want a cracker", "fat bird", "pretty bird", "who let the sooners out", "OU", "kisses", "cappy cool", "seed", "oh no","come here", "step up", and can do many sound imitations. Of course he only does these things when he wants and there sure isn't making him do anything. Cappy rules his roost!
